The SiteWorx file editor can make a small text change directly on the server. Because saving can affect the live site immediately, keep an original copy and avoid using the browser editor for a large release or unfamiliar generated file.

What you need before you begin
Identify the correct domain, file and purpose. Download a backup before editing, preferably outside the public web directory. For PHP or configuration changes, use a staging copy when available and keep a way to restore the original quickly.
01 Edit a website file safely in SiteWorx File Manager
- Open File Manager, select the domain and click Login. Navigate to the file’s actual folder, such as the domain’s
htmldirectory. - Click the intended file and choose Edit. Confirm its full name and extension before changing content.
- Make the smallest required edit. Preserve syntax, quotation marks and encoding, and do not paste formatted word-processing text into code.
- Save the file, then test the affected page or application action in a separate browser tab.
- If the site reports a syntax or server error, restore the original file immediately and inspect the relevant logs before attempting another change.
Confirm the expected result
Confirm both the intended visible result and the application’s basic functions. A saved file notice proves only that the write completed, not that the code is valid.
Why can I not save the SiteWorx file edit?
If Save is unavailable or fails, check file ownership, permission and storage limits. Binary files should be replaced with a correctly prepared upload rather than edited as text. Never leave a backup containing credentials under a publicly downloadable filename.
