A mailbox quota limits the storage consumed by that mailbox. Increasing it can restore room for incoming mail, but the mailbox still shares the overall disk allocation and any other limits of the hosting account.

Prepare for the change
Check mailbox usage and the hosting account total disk space. Decide whether you need a larger quota, an archive policy or removal of genuinely unneeded messages. Back up important mail before deleting it.
01 Change a DirectAdmin mailbox storage quota
- Open E-mail Manager > E-mail Accounts for the correct domain.
- Open the intended mailbox action menu and choose Change Limits.
- Review the current E-mail Quota and displayed units. Enter the approved new allowance within the account and plan limits.
- Save and reopen the mailbox details to confirm the value. If reducing a quota, keep it above current usage unless you intentionally accept the delivery consequences and have planned the cleanup.
- Review large folders, sent mail, trash and junk using a mail client or webmail. Archiving to independent storage can preserve messages while reducing server usage.
How do I verify the new mailbox quota?
Test delivery of a small message from an external mailbox and confirm it appears. Check whether trash or deferred quota accounting explains any difference between apparent free space and the panel report.
If the change does not work
If mail still bounces for quota, check the hosting account total usage and server message-size limits as separate causes. Setting a mailbox to unlimited does not create unlimited physical storage. Do not delete the mailbox to clear space when its history is needed; archive or adjust the allocation through the proper route.
