Global typography establishes consistent defaults for text across a block theme. Change it through the Site Editor's Styles controls, then review representative pages because one font or size choice can affect headings, navigation and forms throughout the site.

01 Prepare a small type system
Choose readable body text and a limited set of heading styles. Check that the intended font supports the languages and characters your content uses. If a font must be installed or loaded externally, review its licence, performance and privacy implications through the site's approved process.
Record the current settings or keep a recovery point before broad changes. Avoid choosing typography based only on a short homepage headline.
02 Set the global defaults
- Open Appearance > Editor and the Styles area.
- Review Typography and the available text, heading or element controls.
- Adjust the supported font family, size, line height and other properties deliberately.
- Use block-type styles only where a particular type needs a consistent exception.
- Preview the style book or representative templates, then review and save the intended Styles change.
03 Verify real content
Check long article paragraphs, multi-line headings, navigation labels, buttons and form fields. Inspect narrow screens and increased text size. A heading that fits on one line in the editor may wrap awkwardly on a phone or in another language.
Review weight and line height as well as size. Extremely tight spacing can make body text difficult to read, while excessive letter spacing can harm readability in long passages.
Why does one block ignore the global typography setting?
A block with an explicit local font or size may not follow the new global default. Identify and remove unnecessary overrides where consistency is intended. Do not repeatedly increase the global value to compensate for one locally styled block.
If the new font does not load, inspect the actual font source and browser errors before adding duplicate font plugins. If the design becomes unusable, restore the relevant style revision or recorded settings rather than resetting unrelated templates. Keep the final choices documented so future editors know which local exceptions are intentional.
